HRTV'S "INSIDE INFORMATION: CHANTAL" PREMIERES THIS SUNDAY, JAN. 29 (1/27/2012)
Arcadia, CA, Jan. 27 -- HRTV's (R) award-winning documentary show, "Inside Information," will offer an in-depth look at one of racing's most recognizable jockey's preparation for North America's richest race, when it debuts, "Inside Information: Chantal" this Sunday, Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. ET.
The show will take a unique, behind-the-scenes look at Chantal Sutherland's attempt to become the first female jockey to win the Breeders' Cup Classic aboard Game On Dude in last year's Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs. HRTV had exclusive access to Sutherland's preparation, beginning with a trip to her native Canada to mentally prepare for the Breeders' Cup.
Principal photography was shot by Anna James, who accompanied Sutherland on her journey. "Inside Information: Chantal" was produced and edited by Kathryn L. Beranich, a veteran of reality show television, who now serves as HRTV's Post Production Manager.
The special look will detail her intense foundation for a try at racing immortality, as "Inside Information" gives viewers the intimate look at the detailed physical and mental approach that led to Sutherland's gutsy demeanor in a pressure-packed setting. Ultimately, her aggressive try fell just short, with a front-running ride aboard Game On Dude, at 14-1, succumbing to Drosselmeyer's late rally in the final strides under the lights at the fabled Twin Spires. The show also explores the emotional reaction to Sutherland's defeat at the hands of Drosselmeyer's rider -- and her former fiance -- Mike Smith.
HRTV’s documentary “Inside Information: Randy Romero” won the 2011 Media Eclipse Award in the Television-Features programming category. The program, which aired in December, 2010, covered the life story of the Hall of Fame jockey, from his years as an up-and-coming rider in Louisiana to the sport’s elite, along with difficult physical and emotional hurdles along the way. The Media Eclipse was the second consecutive win in the category for HRTV, who earned the honor in the same category in 2010 for its “Inside Information: Swale” show.
